Course Two – Resourcing, Contracts and Discrimination
Welcome to Course 2
The second Course will address a number of fundamental issues facing HR professionals. You may complete the modules in any order – but please do not forget to complete them all in the end.
We focus in our presentations on our ten key countries – China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, UAE, the UK and USA.
Remember to use the “Notes” facility when you are researching a subject. This can be used for jotting down references, facts and ideas and can be later stored and converted to a word document. Please write your open ended question in Notes or a separate “Word” document, saving it as you go. Data held in the normal response section has been written into “the cloud” offline and a failed connection could result in you losing your work.
This course will be conducted in the English language and English spelling used throughout. There will be three types of assessment during the course:
1. Computer marked assessments – These will be undertaken at the end of each presentation and consist of 10 multiple choice questions per presentation. Each question will be worth 3 points.
2. Tutor marked assessments – There is one open-ended question per module, answered after the participant has undertaken some personal research in the required field. Answers should either be to a specified maximum number of words – up to a maximum of 500 words. Please do not treat these as essays and feel free to use bullet points where appropriate – provided your answer is clear. It is important in all open-ended questions to choose, where possible (or otherwise specified), a country – or countries – that you are not very familiar with. The course is meant primarily to stretch your international know how, not reinforce your existing know-how. This question will be marked individually by your tutor and there will be up to 20 points awarded for the open-ended answer in each module. Please note that there is no problem in copying ideas, but please do not cut and paste text unless you mean to put it into quotation marks and the source attributed. If plagiarism is found then all available points will be reset to zero for the module.
3. Special mini-project – Course participants are required to complete an exercise examining the introduction of a significant, new legal requirement into their own organisation’s policies, procedures and practices. This will require the completion of a project assessment. During 2019/20 this will be GDPR or the COVID-19 crisis. The answers to this module will be treated with a particularly high level of confidence and security.
At the end of the course the points for each set of multiple choice tests, tutor marked assessments and the special project report will be totaled and participants will be expected to reach a total equivalent to 48% to pass the course.
Those who complete and pass the HR Counsel Programme will require a total of 810 points out of 1,350 totally available. Those gaining 810 to 1,000 will receive their Advanced Diploma at “a professional standard”. If 1,001 to 1,200 points are achieved, the Advanced Diploma will be awarded “With Merit” and if 1,201+ points are achieved, it will be awarded “With Distinction”.
Good study practices
Participants should undertake the course requirements at their own pace and seek to fit them into their current work and domestic commitments in the least stressful possible way. Care should particularly be taken to complete the assessments and necessary research in a well-lit and ventilated room and work will be most easily achieved without regular disturbance. All study for 30 minutes or more should be undertaken with short breaks to refocus and rest the eyes.
